On Being Led Beyond Every Pursuit

“The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.”

John 3:8

There comes a day

when the road ends.

Not because it has failed,

but because it is no longer needed.

The feet

grow still.

The mind

lets go.

The heart,

wearied of seeking,

no longer reaches.

There is no revelation.

No certainty.

No arrival.

Only a silence

that asks nothing.

The old questions

fall away.

The future

falls away.

Even the desire

to understand

falls away.

One is no longer drawn

by thought,

nor carried

by longing,

but gently borne

by Another.

The will

becomes light.

The heart

becomes empty.

Nothing is attained.

Nothing is possessed.

Nothing remains

to defend.

There is no path.

No map.

No horizon.

Only the quiet

drawing of God.

There is only consent.
