The Word Awaits Your Consent

The Terror and Glory of Surrender

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”

The angel speaks. Heaven bends low. Eternity stands at the threshold of a young woman’s heart and waits.

God does not force entry.

He announces. He invites. He waits.

All creation holds its breath in Nazareth. Not because God is weak, but because love does not violate. The One who spoke light into being now asks for a word in return.

Mary is troubled. She does not understand. She does not grasp the way. Yet she does not turn away.

She listens.

This is the beginning. Not knowledge. Not clarity. Not strength. Listening.

The serpent once spoke and Eve listened and the world fell into death. Now the angel speaks and Mary listens and life enters the world again.

Do you see the battle? It is not out there. It is here. In the ear. In the heart. In the moment where a voice is received or rejected.

Mary asks one question. Not in defiance but in purity. How can this be?

And heaven answers not with explanation but with mystery.

The Holy Spirit will come upon you.

This is always the answer. Not technique. Not mastery. Not control. The Spirit.

What God asks of man cannot be accomplished by man. It must be received.

Mary does not negotiate. She does not delay. She does not secure herself.

She gives herself.

Behold.

This word is the doorway. Not argument. Not hesitation. Behold.

I am the handmaid.

This is the death of the self that seeks to possess its life. This is the end of autonomy. This is the beginning of God within.

And then the word that shakes heaven and earth.

Let it be done.

Not I will do it. Not I understand it. Not I accept it on my terms.

Let it be done.

This is the faith that conceives God.

You seek God. You seek clarity. You seek peace.

But God seeks your consent.

He stands at the door of your life not with force but with a word. And your salvation hangs on a response that costs everything.

If you cannot say let it be done, you will remain outside the mystery. You will speak of God, but you will not bear Him.

Mary did not become the Mother of God through privilege but through surrender.

And so the question remains.

When the Word comes to you in darkness, in confusion, in the dismantling of all you thought yourself to be, will you argue or will you bow

Will you protect yourself or will you say behold

Will you cling to your life or will you allow God to be formed within you

Heaven is still waiting for that word.
