Most Holy Theotokos, shelter me beneath your veil

Mother of God,

you who kept all things in your heart

and followed your Son through darkness without turning away,

look upon me in this hour of uncertainty.

I do not ask to see the whole road.

I do not ask to know what tomorrow will bring.

Only obtain for me the grace

to recognize the will of your Son

and the courage to obey Him when it is made known.

Where I am deceived, correct me.

Where fear speaks within me, quiet it.

Where pride seeks to choose its own way, humble me.

Where I grasp after certainty, teach me to wait.

Where conscience must stand before God alone,

keep it pure, peaceful, and without bitterness.

Most holy Lady,

spread your protecting veil over me

and over all whom God has entrusted to my care.

Guard our home.

Stand beside us in sickness and weakness,

in confusion and weariness,

in the long hours when there seems to be no answer.

Drive far from us every power of darkness,

every temptation to despair,

every thought that scatters the heart

and draws it away from Christ.

When I cannot discern the road,

lead me quietly by the hand.

When doors close, keep me from forcing them open.

When a door is opened by God,

give me simplicity to enter without fear.

Teach me the obedience of Nazareth,

the silence with which you stood beneath the Cross,

and the hope with which you waited for the Resurrection.

Most pure Mother,

I place beneath your protection

my past, which I cannot change;

my future, which I cannot see;

and this present hour,

which alone has been given to me.

Keep me near the Name of your Son.

When every other word fails,

let His Name remain:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.

And when I no longer know what to ask,

pray for me yourself, O Theotokos,

that nothing may separate me from Christ,

that nothing may harden my heart,

and that I may desire neither this path nor that path,

but only Him.

Most Holy Theotokos, save us.

Shelter us beneath your precious veil.

Guide us to your Son,

and abandon us not in the hour of trial.

For He is our Life, our Peace, and our Hope,

unto the ages of ages.

Amen.
